Wizz Air, a Hungarian low-cost airline, has announced the launch of direct flights to Istanbul, Antalya, and Dalaman. The routes will begin in March 2023, connecting Turkiye to Hungary, Romania, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
Wizz Air will run daily direct flights to Turkey, Istanbul from its bases at UK international airports; Luton Airport and Gatwick Airport. The company will also operate four flights per week from Gatwick Airport to Antalya (all year) and Dalaman (in the summer).
They aim to serve tourists but also make it easier for residents to visit friends and family in Turkey. Also, it is believed that Wizz Air helps Istanbul Airport achieve its sustainability targets, thanks to its industry-leading low emissions and sustainable operations, by flying the environmentally friendly Airbus A321neo aircraft.
It will be the first ultra-low-cost airline flying from Istanbul Airport, offering over 400,000 high-quality but affordable seats to destinations throughout Europe.
Evelin Jeckel, Network Officer of Wizz Air, stated, "We're excited to be finally returning to Istanbul with our point-to-point services and strengthening our presence in Turkiye with the new connections to Dalaman and Antalya while bringing sustainable, low-cost aviation to Istanbul and the pearls of the Turkish seaside. We are confident that our new routes will be loved by our customers and they will experience the outstanding Turkish hospitality and the beauty of both Istanbul and the seaside resorts.”
Majid Khan, Vice President of Airport Development at IGA Istanbul Airport said, “Wizz Air will commence flights from London Gatwick, London Luton, Budapest, and Iasi to Istanbul and flights into Dalaman and Antalya, which will further develop inbound tourism to Turkiye. European travelers will get even more connections to explore the historical, cultural, and vibrant city of Istanbul and our seaside destinations.”
